Sustainable fashion is sometimes difficult. So many different terms are used that can be misleading. A common term that we sometimes get confused about is "slow fashion and fast fashion". We explain the differences in today's blog!
Fast fashion
Fast fashion is known for mass production whereby many different collections every year are massively produced based on the current trends on social media. Items may only be worn a few times before being disposed of and some are not ever worn. Yet we still buy more. Consequently, companies seek for cheaper labour offshore and with no regards to the working condition been in place. Developing countries are often de victim, as they see no other choice to work in a sweatshop with underpaid wages with hope to make just enough to feed their families.
Slow fashion
Slow fashion is part of the so-called “slow movement” and is actually about a conscious way of dealing with clothing. It's a holistic look at a piece of clothing, not only looking at how the piece is hanging in front of you now but also thinking about how it got to you and how to handle it in the future. As a result, an item is not only "part of an outfit" anymore but is an item that suits you as a person, your values and what you find important in the world.

Recycle unworn clothing?
Recycling unworn clothing also this, causes an issue as they are usually massively dumped in developing countries. For instance, Sympany is one of the largest textile collectors in the Netherlands. By collecting and selling textiles, they support sustainable projects in countries such as India and African countries. A fantastic initiative, however, the number of reusable clothing has been falling for years all due to fast fashion and its low quality.
What should I buy?
